Everyone starts their photography journey somewhere. In my case, it began at the charming little restaurant, Foreign Concept, nestled in the heart of downtown Calgary.
When I first got into photography seriously, I had no idea where to start when it came to enhancing my skills and getting new clients. I was taking a gap year, figuring out what I wanted to do with my life while I was serving at Foreign Concept, a contemporary modern-asian restaurant concept owned and led by Chef Duncan Ly. It was there that I began practicing my craft, photographing their dishes on my off days during the peak service hours. From there, after hours of practice, and connections made within the culinary world through the restaurant, my freelance work snowballed into what it is today.
Foreign Concept has since closed its doors in june of 2023, however, the team has since opened a new venture, Bar Chouette, a French-influenced contemporary wine and cocktail bar located in downtown Calgary.
Foreign Concept was the place that gave me everything; so to Rachel, Duncan, and everyone else who helped get me started— thank you 💗
